Putte

One of the most famous middle distance lofts for more than 50 years now is the loft Flor Engels in Putte. Putte is in the middle of the province Antwerp. Some other famous lofts on middle distance are situated in this area so the competition is very hard. The family Engels managed to stay on the top. They are the owners of the 1^st Olympiad pigeon category B in Lievin (France) 2002. The hen  ‘Marieke 6153558/01’ is the new golden hen. She is one the biggest stars of Belgium pigeon racing 2002. The loft Engels had other super results in 2002:

Strain Flor Engels

Flor Engels died at the end of 2002. His sons Jos and Jules will continue racing as they already did for the last years. Flor has been sick for several years but his sons continue in the success. In 2001 Jules and Jos won 12 x first provincial and one national race. They won 64 x first prize provincial since 1990 and 11 x national race. Thanks all to the late father Flor Engels. It all began in 1947 when Flor Engels got one pair of birds from his brother Jef Engels. Jef Engels was a very good fancier on speed races. Flor immediately had the luck to have an excellent breeding couple. He had instant success on the speed races. The blood of this basic birds in still in the birds Engels 2003. In the mid fifty’s Flor entered his first middle distance race. Against 2000 birds he won 1-8! Flor had only two birds in this  race! All other middle distance fanciers were amazed by this result. The blood of this winners in still in the strain Flor Engels. This is the basic blood for the hen ‘Witte duivin’. She is the mother of the first basic pigeon ‘Oude Zwarten 6287401/73’. He was crossed with a hen direct from Van Hove-Uyterhoeven from the same town Putte. This hen ‘6546874/80’ was a daughter of their basic strain ‘Oude Bange’. They are the parents of the famous breeder ‘Witpender 6578304/81’. He won 2 x 1^st provincial on Orleans on two weeks time. He is the father of the world famous ‘6616231/86’ better known as ‘31’. He is sure the best middle distance breeder in Belgium. The same cock ‘304/81’ matched to hen ‘daughter Oude Lichten 089/85’ are parents of ‘Witte 6324103/89’( 1^st national Bourges 1990 and 5^th Ace Pigeon KBDB). The mother of (6616231/89) is from the same blood, the strain ‘Oude Lichten’.

The most important bird in this loft is ‘6616231/86’. He is the father of many super racers that has become super breeders. I give you some prove:

Method

Jos and Jules race hens, cocks and youngsters. They have about 30 hens. All hens are separated in September and go to an aviary for the winter. The old racing hens are matched in the winter and breed on eggs for a few days. This is not for the yearling hens. All hens are matched again on March 5^th and breed youngsters one time. They are tossed and raced on short distance races. After this the widowhood with these hens can begin. They train twice a day and come into the loft with the nest boxes. They can eat and drink on this compartment. After one hour they go to another compartment and are closed in a small box. The cannot leave this box until the next training-session. These widow-hens are raced every week. They can never stay at home for resting. The hens are raced on the natural system  by the end of the racing season. They usually perform excellent on races like Bourges and Argenton…

The cocks (60) are raced on widowhood also. Old cocks can breed on eggs during the winter but not raise any youngsters. This old cocks get the hens for a few days in March but no breeding on eggs this time. Widowhood begins. The yearling cocks can raise youngsters in March and start widowhood after this nest. The cocks train twice a day and get one peanut after the training. A few days before basketing 1-4 peanuts. They get mixture 50% diet and 50% sport on Sunday and Monday morning. In the evening always 100 % sportmixture.

Youngsters(160) are raced on two different systems. About 30 young cocks and 30 young hens are raced on widowhood. This young cocks are darkened from March 1^st until the end of June. The young hens are darkened until mid of July. Most of the other youngsters are darkened and raced on the natural system. Both these systems give good results. The main rule is that the birds are super, the system is less important.
